What lives on every mine floor, what it drops and how much essence a kill pays
Data from build 25583279, updated
The mines run 5 biomes deep, from floor 1 down to floor 100, with 36 monsters between them. Each biome has its own spawn table, and most of the cast is the same handful of families recoloured and buffed as you go deeper: Saplings, Clods, Mushrooms, Stalagmites. Kills pay out essence for the shrine perks, combat XP and a drop or two. For essence, the Lava Caves is the place to grind, at about 17.5 a kill.
Nearly every kill drops essence, from 5 on an Upper Mines Sapling to 25 on a Pink Sapling. Spend it at the shrines on skill perks. Friend-Shaped, the combat perk that turns on pet skins, costs 200 essence and needs combat level 60. Essence Drops are a different thing: a crafting material that only Essence Bats leave behind.
XP is set by the biome, not the monster. A Rockclod with 8 HP pays the same 3 XP as a Sapling on the same floor. It climbs one point per biome, to 7 in the Ancient Ruins, so once you can survive a deeper biome, level there.
The treasure chest that wasn’t. It turns up in every biome and you can’t kill it: hit it and it vanishes. Throw an item next to it instead. It eats one, spits out loot (gems by default, more with the right combat perks) and leaves. Treasure boxes, tools and cosmetics are off its menu.
Nearly every family drops its own hat, 16 cosmetics in all, most at 5%. The Essence Bat Hat is the one everyone wants. The Gryphon Statue’s hat is the best odds at 10%, and Cool and Pink Saplings add Sunglasses and a Skull Mask. Pet skins (14 of them) don’t drop at all until you own Friend-Shaped.
Each band is one biome’s spawn table, commonest monster first. The percentage is its share of the spawns on those floors.
7 combat XP per kill · ~16.5 essence per kill on average
The game’s spawn tables don’t put these 2 on any floor, so they won’t roll in like the rest.
Averages are weighted by how often each monster spawns, so they show what a typical kill on those floors is worth. The Mimic and the Gryphon Statue are left out.
