Overview
Bugs sell for 10t to 20t, mostly, so the money is elsewhere. 85 of the 93 fill the museum’s Insect Wing across 17 sets of five, and donated bugs go on to feed the Terrarium and the Apiary. Surface bugs follow the season, the clock and the weather, while the 25 in the mines are there every day of the year. Gifting them is mostly a mistake. Luc is the exception, and he loves 8 of them.
How Bug Catching Works

Season, Clock and Sky
Day runs 6 AM to 8 PM and night 8 PM to 2 AM. 10 bugs only come out after dark, moths and fireflies mostly. Rain is the other filter: nearly half the surface bugs vanish once it starts, so do your butterfly runs on clear days. Can’t find something? Walk off the map and come back. The bugs reroll every time you re-enter.
Shake, Cut, Break
Not everything flies around waiting for your net. Caterpillars and Walking Leaf drop out of shaken trees, the hoppers jump out of cut grass, and Roly Poly, Jewel Beetle and the mine worms turn up when you smash rocks. The entire Grass Insect Set comes from cutting grass, one hopper per season, so keep your sickle swinging all year.
Bug Pheromones
Drop a pheromone on open ground and it calls a bug of that rarity. Five bugs only ever appear this way, and together they make the Bug Pheromone Set: Ant Queen and Sunset Moth on Common, Saint Mantis on Uncommon, Queen’s Birdwing on Rare and Biggest Beetle on Legendary. Biggest Beetle sells for 120t, more than any other bug. It’s the one legendary that needs the pheromone. The other five just roam, very rarely.
Terrarium and Apiary
Bugs you’ve already donated belong in a Terrarium. Stock it with one rarity and it turns out Fish Bait or Bug Pheromones of that tier, which is where your pheromones come from in the first place. The seven bees go in an Apiary instead. Four Flower or Moonlight Bees make Deluxe Honey, and Fairy Bee is the only route to Legendary Honey.

In a Terrarium
Fill a Terrarium with bugs of one rarity and it makes bait or pheromones of that rarity every three days, once you hand over the item it asks for. Mix rarities and you get the common versions.
